Piccies from Signs of the Times
These pictures show "Signs of the Times" (the signmaker commissioned to make the boundary signs) manufacturing our signs. What you see being made is the pattern from which a negative mould (probably fibreglass or polymerised plaster) will be made. The resin is then poured into this negative mould to make the three signs.
Quite apart from the much nicer artistic effect, a moulded sign (as opposed to a flat sign) is remains discernible even when it is quite dirty. It is also much easier to maintain since most of the paintwork can be touched up by people of limited artistic ability who simply follow the shape.
Although there is obvious skill needed to sculpt the shape of the central figure, in fact the cutting and positioning of letters is also very demanding work - especially when letters are on an arc.

CURRENT STATUS The signs and all posts and fittings have now been manufactured and are stored at the Highways Department's winter depot at Horncastle. Both the Department and its contractors are currently heavily involved with repairing damaged roads. For this reason, and the fact the waterlogged ground is not suitable for erecting signs, there will be no progress in erecting the signs until the roads have been improved and the ground has dried out enough to allow erection. The Society has already arranged to have site visits with the Highways Department to determine locations when conditions have improved. The Highways Department have provided us with maps to show where the boundaries are - and the signs will be put up as close as the Highways Department will allow to those boundaries.
TOTAL PRICE OF SIGNS - £ 4,589
TOTAL PRICE OF INSTALLATION - £2,500
